Buying time versus Iran for political reasons is one thing. Gratuitous and unjustified comments by Trump and Vance that castigate Israel is something else, much darker.

Israel and Lebanon have a history full of agreements that were not worth the paper they were written on. While the intentions of both sides are worthy, it is unclear how Lebanon will cope with attempts by Hezbollah and Iran to torpedo the agreement. Its implementation also depends on the US president, who could fall in love with the agreement even if it contradicts what is happening on the ground.
At a press conference, the prime minister presented a map of the pilot zones in southern Lebanon: "The Lebanese government showed courage. We told Iran it has no standing here." He also stressed that under the agreement signed, the IDF would maintain the original security zone outside anti-tank missile range as long as Hezbollah is not disarmed. Asked by Israel Hayom about the US and Iran, he said: We will send a delegation to Washington on the Iranian nuclear issue
A very well-informed source, well-versed in Israel-US relations, is looking at the developments of recent weeks with eyes wide open, and with less concern than most of us. Now he explains how two election campaigns caused the clash between Netanyahu and Trump, and points to a hidden clause in the agreement that will not please the Iranians.
The event was held at the US State Department, with Secretary of State Marco Rubio announcing the agreement and stressing, “There is a lot of work ahead.” According to the terms of the agreement, a pilot program is expected in which the IDF will withdraw from one sector, which will be handed over to the Lebanese army.
