The story was allegedly deleted two hours after its upload, despite a Columbia spokesperson previously saying “The University welcomes and embraces the Israeli students.”
The tanks' hatches were closed (a measure that hinders spatial awareness), and in the evening hours, one of the tanks identified what appeared to be a rifle barrel protruding from a window and opened fire toward the building. Tragically, as a result of this accidental firing, a company commander and four soldiers were killed. Seven additional soldiers were injured, three of them in critical condition.
According to investigators, the attacker stabbed the young man through the vehicle window while he remained inside. Security forces have closed off all entrances to Hawara, a town near Nablus, and are currently conducting a manhunt in the area for the perpetrator.
