The Canadian government has a moral and constitutional responsibility to protect all its citizens, including Jews. It shouldn’t take a foreign government to warn Canadian Jews that their safety is at risk.

Celebration alone is not enough. Jerusalem Day must be a call to action, a moment to build a vision that is both ambitious and practical, not just for the coming decade but for the next half-century.

Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar delivered a stark warning to his counterparts in the United Kingdom, France, and several other nations, amid growing international momentum toward unilateral recognition of a Palestinian state. In response to a summit led by French President Emmanuel Macron and scheduled to take place in New York next month, Jerusalem has issued fierce objections, denouncing the initiative as a "moral distortion and a reward for terrorism." Sa’ar stated unequivocally: "Unilateral moves against Israel will be met with unilateral Israeli measures."

In the wake of the murder of Israeli Embassy staffers in Washington DC, President Donald Trump has sent Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem to Israel on an urgent visit. Noem is expected to immediately head to the Western Wall, later set to meet with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as well as with victims of terrorism.

Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares called to impose sanctions on Israel to stop the ongoing war in Gaza. The Maltese prime minister also announced that starting next month, his country would recognize a Palestinian state.
